Why I made Artycards

E-Cards

I've signed a lot of e-cards over the years, for various reasons. They're great, generally. Easy for a distributed group of people to sign, and slightly more environmentally friendly than posting paper cards. However, I think the clip-art and fun-font style of e-card is lacking in the human department. My favourite kind of card is the one you buy from a local artist because you like their work, want to support them, and want to share it with others. That's what I'm trying to create here, just digitally.

Supporting artists

I wanted to build something that puts real, handmade art back into a small everyday moment, and actually pays the artist whenever their work gets used. Artists keep 80% of every card. If you'd like to sell your work here, the artist studio is where you apply.

Where this is going

The end goal is to offer physical deliveries too - a printed card that turns up in the post. However, that's a lot of complexity (printing, packing, postage), so I'm starting smaller. For now, Artycards makes e-cards that a group can sign together and that arrive by email.
